SIGHT DISTANCE AND TYPES

Sight distance:
Sight distance is the length of roadway visible to a driver. The three types of sight distance common in roadway design are intersection sight distance, stopping sight distance, and passing sight distance.

THEY ARE OF 3 TYPES

(I) INTERSECTION SIGHT DISTANCE
(II) STOPPING SIGHT DISTANCE
(III) PASSING SIGHT DISTANC

1. INTERSECTION SIGHT DISTANCE.

Intersection sight distance is defined as length of the cross road, that must be clearly visible for the driver of crossing or turning vehicle to be able to decide or complete maneuvers without any conflict with other vehicles, approaching the intersection from the cross road.
2. STOPPING SIGHT DISTANCE :

Stopping sight distance (SSD) is the length of roadway ahead that is visible to the driver. This distance allows a driver to see an object in the roadway and stop their vehicle before colliding with the object.
3. PASSING SIGHT DISTANCE :

Passing sight distance (PSD) is the distance that drivers must be able to see along the road ahead to safely and efficiently initiate and complete passing maneuvers of slower vehicles on two-lane, two-way highways using the lane normally reserved for opposing traffic .
